December 2008 {B.A.D} Clan Update

•December 18, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Once again I fail at providing timely updates. But there is always the old fall back of “better late than never”.

So since my last post here is to the best of my recollection what’s been going on:

As I think everyone that’s ever played a first person shooter knows Call of Duty World at War has hit the shelves. I would say that about 80% of the active COD4 group has already bought a copy with me and perhaps one or two others being the only slow pokes. At this point I have not heard any great clamor to put up our own server but that’s a question we can address at any time should there be an interest or a need to do so.

We did complete another season of the COD4 competitions. This last season was in the TWL Expert league and a quick check of the forums shows we finished in the number eight spot with a near upset of the number two ranked team. So congrats to all involved and if you have missed any of these posts a new 3v3 Search and Destroy COD4 season of league play is about to start so check the BAD Clan Forums for information about sign up and times.

On a sad note Mantis decided to leave our ranks and re-join his prior clan. We of course wish him the best and hope to hear from him soon for some updates on the new baby or even to setup a COD4 scrim.

Also in regards to our members let’s keep Harley in our prayers and wish him a speedy recovery from his urber nasty auto accident last month. And the rest of you guys need to be careful over the holidays so we don’t have to worry about where you have been while you sit in a full body cast for weeks. (I just made that cast part up but you get the idea)

On a happy note another one of our members has apparently spent too much time away from the computer. This time believe it or not, the newest clan member, Seth{B.A.D}JR, belongs to Zero and Kayla. Congrats on the beautiful baby and we seriously hope Kayla reconsiders that crazy plan to give Zero a pass on the diaper changing just because he is going to school. HE NEEDS TO DO IT. It’s good for him.

That’s about all I know for now so Merry Christmas clan mates and a Happy New Year!

P.S. Don’t’ forget Waddle is “Feeling Lonely” so if you have a Facebook account hit him up and say hello. Waddle in real life is Curt Loter and he is the one in the uniform with a beard and a gun.

October 2008 {B.A.D} Clan Update

•October 23, 2008 • 1 Comment

This month I need to start off with saying sorry about missing last month. I am sure there are at most two or even three of you that wondered where the monthly update was. That was a joke. But you know how it is, never enough time in the day.

Speaking of last month we gained a very good recruit last month that I am sure we will soon our clan mate. That recruit is Mantis, from I believe, the AEST clan. It’s been great having him in the scrims and matches and of course keeping us company on Team Speak. ** UPDATE** Welcome to the clan Mantis. I understand you accepted our offer to join up a few nights ago. Most likely after everyone my age was already in bed. So sorry I missed that but glad to have you in the group.

Unfortunately now for over a month Queen Lady had been addicted to a game called Age of Conan. Hopefully its many bugs, lack of any real ongoing entertainment value, and poor graphics, will get her away from it soon.

Speaking of my wife, who reminds me of money, I would like give special thanks this month to everyone who donated. As most of you know our expenses are fairly low but they still require a good number of us to donate on a monthly basis. This month I think we had six members donate which, in addition to the money, makes for a nice looking list on the website.

Also a special thanks to Pred and Zero, and all those why have done a great job bringing us even more potential recruits this month. Some of the guys looking to join and be more competitive include Synthetic, Check6, and Crash. With the addition of these new players we have already had a 5v5 intra clan scim and hopefully this will allow for more scrims of that nature as well as more league participation.

And how could I forget the great news that Ka0t!k is back and he has a working mic. Life is good !

To wrap this up lets give a special mention and thanks to our clan mates Waddle and VanSlay who of course are both in the service. With VanSlay out of town for the week on training and with Waddlle in Iraq we wish them both the best and a safe and speedy trip home.

See you back here next month,

August 2008 {B.A.D} Clan Update

Congrats on the COD4 Win! - Queen Lady {B.A.D}I want start this monthly update with a quick congratulations to the team on the second round win in the TWL COD4 S&D playoffs. I think making it this far in a league with so many teams shows the depth of talent our clan has.

Speaking of talent we need to welcome some new members to the clan who have completed the recruiting process during the last month. So one last official “welcome to the family” for Van-Slay{B.A.D} and Surreal{B.A.D}. If you have not said hello yet make sure you have these guys on your x-fire list ( they are both under the clan section ) and say hello the next time you see them on.

Another personnel related announcement is the promotion of Zero{B.A.D} to the Admin ranks. Zero has proved to be a great addition to the clan and his leadership and game play have been a big part of the team’s success in the TWL league.

Finally we need to keep an eye out for our clan mates we have not seen in a while, such as Modthree{B.A.D}, Ka0t!k{B.A.D}, etc, and continue the effort to recruit new players. Our target clan size is approx 15-20 active COD4 members. At present I would say we are at 6-12 active COD4 members.

I will be speaking with the COD4 team captains to see if we can organize a night for intra clan scrims. I think it would be great practice and fun to get all of us together and have our standard TWL team go up against those of us who have not been involved in the league matches. So if you are interested please watch for a forum thread in the coming days.

In regards to the website please be aware that the site is hosted by a traditional website / game host provider and our expense for the site is approximately $17.00 per month. Though this is not a large amount it is a fixed expense that is paid out of clan donations made though pay-pal as linked on the www.the-badclan.com website. If you do not have a pay-pal account and still wish to help with a donation just drop any council member a PM on the forum and we would be glad to explain some other options.

One last quick note on the website: We will be making some changes soon in hopes of taking better advantage of the home page. We would like to see prominent links on the home page where other clans can post challenges for scrims. We would like to see a permanent area for the latest news and announcements. If you have any suggestions we truly appreciate your input. (Unless you want to add a flaming logo, then .. yeah, thanks anyway).

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,
The Queen

July 2008 {B.A.D} Clan Update:

Queen Lady {B.A.D}As mentioned in our last update we have been in the process of reorganize the council. Our goal in the council reorganization is simply to put senior active members with a history of clan loyalty in our highest positions of responsibility.

In the past new members have often asked how the clan is structured, or who is the clan leader? That answer has always been that the clan is not lead by a single person but by a council of clan members. A council formed by the collaboration of the most senior members.

In our next update we will be outlining what is expected of the council, the team captains, and our {B.A.D} clan members. We hope that by better communication and planning that we can avoid falling into some of the organizational mistakes and leadership shortcomings of the past.

Some examples of the things we hope to improve with these updates and the new council include: In the last few days there have been several posts on the {B.A.D} clan forums asking why member status has been removed. There have also been posts asking if clan membership had been removed after long periods of absence. The one question from the past that saddens me most is from members who ask who is on the council and why have they never been seen on x-fire, team speak or playing Call of Duty with us?

Again, we are confident that with better communication and leadership these questions and issues will become less common.

So with all that being said we would like to introduce the council in no particular order:

Tracks{B.A.D}
Hamster{B.A.D}
Zxavion{B.A.D}
QueenLady{B.A.D}

As mentioned in our previous update, we are a gaming community, and we will have no requirement from the members or the council to play the current primary game, however it is our expectation that any member should easily be able to find and communicate with any council member through the forums, x-fire, or a variety of instant messenger programs.

So if you find yourself in the position of never having met or chatted with someone on the above list please take the time to do so and let us know your thoughts and ideas on how to make this the best clan it can be.

Sincerely,
The Queen

June 2008 – The B.A.D Clan Update

Clan Update June 2008:

As many of you know we have been thinking of how to restructure the clan for several months now. With the recent resignations of several members who were not involved in COD4 we think it is time to go ahead and openly discuss our plans for both the present and the future.

To start with the present I would like to apologize for a lack or leadership from myself and the council. For fear of upsetting many of our original members I have postponed making any changes to the point that my procrastination was only contributing to our problems. We have many great long term and new members who deserve to be kept better informed by those in charge of the clan and we will be taking steps to insure that those in a leadership position are willing to lead.

Our first priority in this regard will be a restructuring of the council. Those members who no longer play our primary game, or whose real life circumstances have caused them to lose touch with the clan will be removed from the council. A new smaller council will be formed from those with whom we play and communicate with on a regular basis. As group communication is key to any group style of leadership it is not possible to have effective leadership from absent members.

As we are, and will remain a Gaming Community, it is not necessary to play the primary game to be clan or a council member, however as mentioned above, active participation in our forums and weekly communication is required from all.

Since the purpose of any clan is to bring together a community of people who all share similar gaming interests it is important that we define what sort of community we are. Our roots are, as many of you know, founded in a great old game called Soldier of Fortune. As that game has aged many of those who at one time never even considered playing another game have in fact moved on to newer and better things. With most members being PC hobbyist we find this to be a natural and expected evolution. Why for example would anyone who just put a few thousand dollars into a new gaming PC want to confine their gaming experience to any game whose graphics have long ago been rendered obsolete. However as mentioned above it is important to know what sort of gaming community this is at present, and what it will remain, the answer to that as you would expect is that we are a First Person Shooter Clan.

Not that our members will not enjoy other games together, or that we discourage any new game of any type, but we as a clan will always seek to recruit, and build a community around, the best first person shooter on the market at any given time.

Going forward we will strive to keep the membership better informed of what to expect from their leadership and what is expected of them. We will be posting general clan updates at least on a monthly basis to inform the members of progress with recruiting, our league standings, our events, our financial situation, and our plans for the future.

So let me thank you all for making this clan an enjoyable community for all these years and at the same time encourage you to become more active with your clan mates through our x-fire clan list that you can be added to, our team speak server that makes for great fun when we all get together, and our forums that are a great way to add your opinion any time of the day or night.

Sincerely,
The Queen
